Let's face it, backpacking is an equipment intensive activity. For some of us, it's part of the reason we like backpacking. Since we are carrying everything on our back, we typically want this equipment to be as light as possible. Many backpacking equipment manufacturers spend a lot of time and resources creating equipment that is lighter and lighter. Unfortunately, this usually means more and more expensive. So, for most of us, our equipment is a compromise between weight and cost.
